[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1461313035205{margin-top: 39px !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialty of physiotherapy to evaluate and treat vertigo, balance disorders, dizziness and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, commonly known as “BPPV”, due to dysfunction of the vestibular system.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Although dizziness can come from several different medical causes, 45% of episodes are caused by a vestibular problem.<\/p>\n
It is important to know that there are three systems involved in balance. A malfunction of one or more of these systems upsets the balance and can cause dizziness.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The most common type is BPPV. It is caused by debris dislodged from the walls and accumulated in the semicircular canals of the vestibular system at the level of the inner ear.<\/p>\n
Following a movement of the head in space, the feeling of dizziness is intense, and usually lasts between 5 and 30 seconds.<\/p>\n
Indeed, vertigo manifests itself during changes of position and it often causes balance disorders when walking. It can also cause nausea or dizziness when you bend over, turn your head, get up or roll over in bed. This dizziness is usually intense, but brief (30 seconds to 1 minute).<\/p>\n
